Volunteer Appreciation

South's College and Career Center has a dozen dedicated, passionate, in-person and remote volunteers who exponentially expand the CCC's ability to help students and families plan for their futures. They mentor students, review student essays, gather scholarship information, publicize resources, host college and career visits, and, most importantly, make the College and Career Center a positive place to be. Thanks to every one of you for all you do to help South students take their next steps!

Friends of South is the parent/alumni group for South Eugene. This team of highly dedicated volunteers supports our school community throughout the year with events like the upcoming teacher appreciation lunch (see below), support for clubs, athletics, performing arts, and at risk students and families, as well as student events outside of the school, like Grad Night. Our South community benefits greatly from the dedication and hard work that these volunteers put in to support us.  If you'd like more information about Friends of South, including ways to get involved, please visit them at friendsofsouth.com or join them for their next meeting at South on May 11 at 6pm. Thank you for all of the effort and care you put in to our community.

Economic Justice League - Formal Wear Clothing Drive

Our Economic Justice League team is hosting a formal wear clothing drive right now (and through May 1st)! If you have formal clothing to donate, please drop it off in the cafeteria, counseling office, or main office. All donations are appreciated, but the clothing closet would benefit most from menswear - trousers, buttoned shirts, etc. Thank you for your support!

Free Bike Events

Battle of the High Schools Bike Ride!

Thursday, April 30, 2026, 4:15 PM, South Eugene High School Main Entrance

The Battle of the High Schools group ride is returning this year! On April 30 bring your bike to school or grab a PeaceHealth bike to ride to the May is Bike month kick-off event at Oakshire Public House. Depart at 4:15 from the main entrance. Enjoy free bike repair, a free t-shirt, and prizes! Compete against other high schools; the school with the most bikers gets a trophy!

Learn to Ride a Bike  - A Free, All Ages, Drop-In Event For Not-Yet-Riders!

Thursday, May 7, 2026, 4:30-6:30 pm 4J Education Center, 200 North Monroe St, Eugene

Do you or your child want to learn how to ride a bike? Join 4J, Bethel, and Springfield Safe Routes to School programs, the City of Eugene, the City of Springfield, Shift Community Cycles and Cascadia Mobility for this fun event with bike checks, free helmets and information about bike share.

We’ll start with balancing and gliding without pedals or training wheels. Some will learn to pedal in one session, while others may need more practice to reach that final goal. You don’t need your own bike to participate, but please bring a helmet and bike if you have one. Contact Safe Routes to School at  mazze_s@4j.lane.edu or  albee_b@4j.lane.edu with questions or to volunteer.

Adaptive Bicycle Open House – Try Something New!

Tuesday, April 29, 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the Hilyard Community Center

Eugene 4J Safe Routes to School and the City of Eugene Adaptive Recreation program invite students and families to an  Adaptive Bicycle Open House on Wednesday, April 29, 4:00–6:00 p.m.  at the Hilyard Community Center.

Come explore a fleet of more than 20 adaptive bicycles designed to meet a wide range of needs. Options include recumbent trikes (for one or two riders), tandems, hand cycles, off-road wheelchairs, and more. It’s a great chance to see what’s possible and try out equipment in a welcoming, low-pressure setting.

Located next to the Amazon Park Path, the Hilyard Community Center offers a safe, car-free space to test ride different bikes. (Note: there are many types of bikes available, but a limited number of smaller sizes.)

This event is ideal for students and family members with ongoing or temporary physical or developmental disabilities and differences. While traditional two-wheel bikes don’t work for everyone, there are many exciting alternatives to explore.

Adaptive bicycles are also available to rent through the City of Eugene Adaptive Recreation program.

Come check it out and find the right ride for you!

From Friends of South - Teacher Appreciation Event

Please join us to celebrate the SEHS faculty and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week!  We've teamed up with Chapala and Mucho Gusto to provide lunch for our staff and faculty on Monday, May 4 @ noon.  Please review the Sign Up Genius and consider contributing a dessert, drink, or your time. If you prefer to make a donation for this event, please send it via Venmo to @sehsteacherappreciation.

From Student Government - Prom

Prom tickets are available for sale on Schoolpay right now for $30! BUY THEM NOW - they will not be available at the door. Guest forms for bringing students from other schools, or sophomores from South must be completed and turned into the office by Wednesday, April 29 at the end of the day.
Yearbook Information

Hello South students and families!
Here is what's in today's message from yearbook:
  • Sales list updated through Apr. 21
  • Information about distribution/yearbook pickup
Sales List Updated through Apr. 21
We've seen a flurry of sales the last few weeks. We still have a limited number of copies available for pre-sale; the price is $75.

We do not sell yearbooks through SchoolPay.  All sales are done through our Jostens sales portal at this link. There is a $3.99 service fee.

Any books still available for purchase at distribution (predicted for the first week in June, before seniors' last day) will be $80 at the door. At the rate sales are going right now, there is a chance we will sell out before distribution.

If you can't remember if you've purchased a yearbook, here is the sales list as of April 21. Newest sales are listed at the top. The rest of the list is sorted first by grade level, then by last name.

Information about Distribution/Yearbook Pickup
Yearbook pickup is tentatively planned to start Monday, June 1 – the last week for seniors. We will confirm the date when we have a solid delivery date from our publisher.

We have been using a really effective ticketing system for yearbook pickup the last two years. Students will receive their tickets before the first week of June distribution dates. Here is how students will get their yearbook tickets:
  • Seniors: Starting May 11 with your cap/gown/ceremony ticket pickup
  • Grades 9-11: May 19th in advisory
For students who miss these opportunities, yearbook staff will have unclaimed tickets available for pickup at distribution.

I know it can feel worrisome not to have your ticket when everyone else gets theirs, but the truth is, it's one less thing for you to have to worry about tracking/not losing.

If you are on the sales list, and you don't get your ticket, we will have it for you at distribution, tentatively planned for June 1.

Thank you for supporting South Eugene yearbook!
