Awards scholarships worth $1,000
Recipients must plan to attend an accredited nonprofit college or university (including community college) in the United States during the 2026-27 school year.

Active participation in athletics (preferably football or baseball/softball) is a factor.
Active participation in the arts (preferably music) is a factor.
Leadership through the ability to find common ground and bring fellow students together is a factor.

4/10, 11, & 12: Friends of the Eugene Public Library seek high school students to volunteer at their annual book sale at the Lane Events Center Performance Hall:
Fri, 4/10: Unload and set up books
Sat, 4/11: Greet and help shoppers. Re-stock books.
Sun, 4/12: Greet and help shoppers. Re-stock books. Clean up and return books to the warehouse.

Summer Programs in Oregon:
UO’s SAIL summer program. Day program: July 20-24, residential (overnight) program: July 12-17. Free programs at the UO for rising high school juniors and seniors with financial need. Participants choose academic subjects to explore in fun, interactive ways. The program also includes helpful college-prep activities. Every SAIL participant who enrolls at the UO after high school will receive a $1000 scholarship. Registration is first come, first served.
NW Cyber Camp at the University of Oregon. 7/20-24. This free, week-long day camp is for current 8th–11th graders. It’s led by a UO computer science professor and is perfect for students who are curious about tech but have little to no prior experience in cybersecurity. OSU Summer Veterinary Experience. 7/20-24 from 8:45 am-5 pm (M-Th) and 8:45 am-1 pm (F) on the OSU Corvallis campus. Hands-on and engaging experience for Oregon students entering 11th and 12 grades who are interested in veterinary medicine. Hosted by the College of Veterinary Medicine. Cost: $400. Scholarships available. 4/3: FBI Teen Academy program application deadline. 7/14-17 in Portland. Open to current sophomores and juniors. Opportunity to develop leadership skills and to investigate the world of law enforcement. Selection process is competitive. 4/3: OHSU Experience Camps application deadline. Free, hands-on experience for Oregon high school students interested in health care careers. Hosted at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Portland campus, this one-day camp features medical simulations, expert speakers and career exploration in fields like medicine, nursing and research to give students a firsthand look at the many paths in health care.Career Center Current Events:
NOW: LCC’s Trades Expo registration open. Takes place on 5/15 from 8:45 am-1 pm at LCC. Students participate in two interactive one-hour sessions, choosing from 7 career areas: automotive, diesel, construction, computer information technology (CIT), CNC Machining, drafting, and fabrication/welding. Also, opportunities to meet local industry professionals and employers. Free lunch provided for registered students. Event schedule.
NOW: Lane Career Academy: Hope Factory, Behavioral Health, and Emergency Services. These career-pathway courses are options for current SEHS sophomores and juniors to forecast for next year’s class schedule. Interested students should discuss the forecasting process with their counselors.
NOW: Connected Lane County Hiring Fair registration open. Event takes place on 5/7 from 9 am-2 pm at Spark at Booth-Kelly (303 S 5th St. Ste 150, Springfield). This free fair connects graduating seniors and 16-24-year-old youth (regardless of school enrollment status) with local companies and hiring opportunities. Students attend one of three 1.5-hour sessions.
4/3: Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) Youth Advisory Board application deadline. Paid opportunity for Oregon juniors, seniors, and 2025 high school graduates interested in helping HECC design Abriendo Puertas Oregon / Open Doors Oregon, a future direct admissions program that will automatically connect eligible students with Oregon colleges and universities. Involves virtual monthly evening meetings for 7 months, and participants will be paid $80/hour. Finalist applicants may be interviewed.
4/7: Capital College Night. 6-8 pm at Sprague High School. Oregon college and university fair. Meet with admission and financial aid representatives from Oregon colleges and universities. Presentations on paying for college, college search tips, and athletics in college. Register.
