Parents of incoming freshmen at South Eugene High School, please mark your calendars for May 28, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.  You and your incoming freshman student are invited to attend an important event that will meet in the SEHS cafeteria (on the south side of the school). Administrators, counselors, staff, and parent volunteers will be on hand to provide you with information about freshman orientation, scheduling, curriculum, extra-curricular activities, summer programs, and more.  SEHS staff members look forward to meeting you on May 28!

SEHS Graduation 2013 will be held Saturday, June 8, 7 p.m. at The Hult Center.  Admission is by ticket only.  Tickets will go on sale to graduating seniors on Wed., May 29 - Fri., May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily in the main hall near the office.  Each senior will receive two free tickets, and they can purchase up to four additional tickets for $5 each.  For those needing more than six tickets, unclaimed tickets can be purchased Mon. June 3 - Wed. June 5 in the hall by the office between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily for $5 each, first come/first served until tickets are all sold.  There will be no limit on additional tickets.

LTD will offer a special Summer Youth Freedom Pass valid July 1 – August 31 for $35. This year's pass will be a silicone wrist band that is more difficult to lose than a traditional pass and is durable enough to stand up to hectic youth activities. The passes will be on sale May 20 through June 3, to give students the opportunity to purchase the pass before school is out.
 
Eugene Police Department is sponsoring Eugene Safety Town, and looking for teen volunteers to be camp counselors for pre-school campers. Sessions will be held July 15- July 26, Monday-Friday, with morning and afternoon sessions. This volunteer position offers valuable volunteer work experience for teens ages 13-19. For more information and applications (due June 1), see Kathy Ruggles in Room 302.

School Bond Measure on May Ballot
A measure that would provide local funding for Eugene public schools is on the May 21 election ballot.

The bond measure, Measure 20-210, would allow the Eugene School District to:

• Replace aging buildings that are worn and costly to maintain
• Provide better instructional facilities for students
• Support effective classroom instruction by acquiring updated technology and instructional materials
• Address student safety and security across the district

If the measure is approved, property tax rates for Eugene School District bond debt would increase by about 24¢ per $1,000 assessed value. Property taxes would increase by about $42 a year for the median homeowner in the district, with an assessed value of $174,000.

By law, bond money can only be spent on capital facilities (such as buildings, athletic fields and parking lots), equipment and technology. It cannot be used to pay for teachers, school days or school programs.

Ballots will be mailed to registered voters beginning May 3 and must be returned to the county elections office or an official ballot drop box by May 21, 8 p.m.

VISIT THE COASTAL MARKER

Installation of the Coastal Safety Marker at Smelt Sands State Park was completed January 5, 2013. The marker is located 100 meters from the place where SEHS seniors, Jack Harnsongkram and Connor Ausland, drowned on Feb. 5, 2011. The marker will heighten visitors' awareness of the dangers along the coast. The official dedication was March 9. The public can visit the marker anytime the park is open.The Committee is grateful for the generosity and support of the SEHS community and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department that made this project possible.
